A Buyers Guide To
Basketball Hoops

Choosing a basketball hoop isn't difficult, but as with any purchasing decision, there are a number of factors you should take into account when making your choice.

Firstly, you should think about where you are going to be installing your basketball hoop - are you going to attach it to a building, or do you want a freestanding hoop? If it's against a building, then you should look for hoops with a solid backboard, as transparent backboards are more difficult to see against an external wall.

If choosing a freestanding basketball hoop, then you should try to find one with measurements marked on the pole. This will make adjustment much simpler.

Whether you choose wall mounted or free standing, your next decision is the type of attachment on the hoop itself. There are two varieties commonly available - fixed and breakaway. The breakaway hoop uses a spring loaded section which allows the hoop to bend under pressure. If you are the sort of basketball player who likes to hang onto the rim, you'll need a breakaway model, otherwise you'll be buying replacement fixings pretty quickly!

Finally, when you make your purchase, if buying from a shop - ensure all the necessary fixtures and fittings are included in the box. If buying over the internet, check how the returns policy works in case there is a problem with your basketball hoop when it's delivered. As soon as you receive the hoop, you should open the box and check the contents immediately. If anything is wrong with the package, notify the supplier immediately.
